Volunteering - Give back to Mono County

Want to give back to the lands that you love to recreate on? Volunteer stewardship is a meaningful and impactful way to connect with nature and surrounding communities.

Most volunteer opportunities with Mono County Recreation occur on partner lands, such as the Forest Service or the BLM, although there are occasional opportunities to volunteer on County lands. Look below for ways to get involved, or, feel free to reach out and suggest a volunteer event you’d like to see in your community!

Adopt-A-Trail

The Adopt-A-Trail program provides an opportunity to support our local recreational resources during a time when our recreation partners are struggling to keep up with ever-increasing maintenance needs. With Adopt-A-Trail, volunteers select a recreation site, such as a trail, and contribute either financially or through stewardship. Volunteer stewards will frequent their trail to assist with waste removal, perform light trail maintenance, and report any maintenance issues that need to be addressed. Volunteers are rewarded for their contributions through recognition signage at the recreation site, on social media, and with the good feelings that go along with giving back! Tangle Free Waters

Do you love your local waterways and want to see them clean and thriving? Participating in the Tangle Free Waters is a program that offers opportunities to give back to your community and the areas you love. Through this program, recycling tubes are placed near recreational waters so that visitors have a place to dispose of mono-filament fishing line. Tubes are paid for through fiscal sponsorship and maintained by volunteer stewardship. Volunteers of Tangle Free Waters help ensure that waterways are kept clean through waste pickup, recycling of fishing line, and report any maintenance issues for future improvements. Volunteers are rewarded for their contributions through recognition signage at the recreation site, on social media, and with the good feelings that go along with giving back! Group Projects

Mono County and our partners consider group projects by request. Recreation groups, social groups, families, friends or anyone could contribute to group projects happening locally. Group project days could include site clean-ups, light trail maintenance days with brushing and assessment, or bigger more involved projects like trail construction. To propose a project in partnership with Mono County, please email the Sustainable Recreation Coordinator. We look forward to getting some dirt on our hands with you!
